Elon Musk, the renowned tech entrepreneur, aims to have his AI company, xAI, use its artificial intelligence model, Grok, to restructure the entire body of human knowledge. The goal is to eliminate “garbage” and “uncorrected data” by having Grok rewrite history.
Musk shared in a recent X post that the forthcoming Grok 3.5 model will possess “advanced reasoning” and is intended to “rewrite the entire corpus of human knowledge, supplementing missing information and eradicating errors.” The model will then undergo retraining using this refined knowledge base, as Musk believes that existing foundational models are riddled with too much inaccurate data.
Musk has frequently criticized competing AI models, such as ChatGPT from OpenAI, which he co-founded, for being biased and politically correct. He has been on a mission to create products devoid of what he views as harmful political correctness, with the aim of making Grok “anti-woke.”
Upon assuming control in 2022, Musk relaxed Twitter’s content and misinformation moderation, which led to a surge in unverified conspiracy theories, extremist content, and fake news. Musk introduced a “Community Notes” feature to counter the misinformation, enabling X users to clarify or debunk posts that appear prominently under contentious posts.
However, Musk’s plans for Grok have garnered criticism. Gary Marcus, an AI startup founder and professor emeritus of neural science at New York University, likened Musk’s strategy to a dystopian scenario. Bernardino Sassoli de’ Bianchi, a professor of logic and science philosophy at the University of Milan, described Musk’s plan as dangerously close to narrative control.
In his quest to revamp Grok, Musk invited X users to share “divisive facts” for bot training – facts that are “politically incorrect, but nonetheless factually true.” The response included a range of conspiracy theories and debunked extremist claims.
