Brazilian police have made a significant discovery by uncovering a hidden illegal <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>Bitcoin mining operation at a recycling yard, valued at approximately $39,400. This operation was linked to the theft of electricity, raising concerns about the integrity of <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>cryptocurrency mining practices in the region.

Background & Context

The illegal mining operation was discovered during a routine inspection aimed at combating scrap metal theft. Officers seized 15 ASIC miners and three servers, which were connected to stolen electricity, leading to estimated monthly losses of about 60,000 reais (approximately $11,800) for local utility provider Cemig. While <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>Bitcoin mining itself is not illegal in Brazil, operating without proper authorization and using stolen resources is a serious offense.

Authorities arrested a 37-year-old employee of the recycling yard for failing to provide documentation regarding the origin of the mining equipment. Police are also pursuing charges against two individuals who operated the business, indicating a broader issue of illegal mining in the country.

Market Impact & Analysis: Hidden <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>Bitcoin Mine Discovery 2026

The revelation of this hidden <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>Bitcoin mine could have several implications for the Brazilian <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>cryptocurrency market. Analysts note that illegal mining operations contribute to negative perceptions of <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Such activities can hinder regulatory acceptance and create roadblocks for legitimate miners operating within the law.

Furthermore, the impact on local utilities may prompt stricter regulations on <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>cryptocurrency mining in Brazil. As authorities become more vigilant in monitoring electricity usage, legitimate miners may face increased scrutiny. This discovery could also lead to a ripple effect in other regions, where similar operations might be operating under the radar.

Expert Perspective: On-Chain Data

Experts in the <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>cryptocurrency space have commented on the incident, emphasizing the need for transparency and regulation in <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>Bitcoin mining. “This signals a critical juncture for Brazil’s <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto landscape,” said Dr. Ana Costa, a blockchain analyst. “If the government can establish clearer rules and guidelines, it may help foster a more robust and compliant mining ecosystem.”

On-chain data shows that <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>Bitcoin’s network has been under increasing pressure from both regulatory scrutiny and energy sustainability concerns. The rise of illegal mining operations underscores the need for legitimate miners to adopt more eco-friendly practices while ensuring compliance with local laws.

What This Means for Investors

For investors, the discovery of illegal mining operations serves as a reminder of the risks associated with the <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>cryptocurrency market. While <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>Bitcoin remains a popular asset, issues like these can cause volatility and uncertainty. Investors should stay informed about regulatory changes and market dynamics that may arise from such incidents.

As Brazil continues to navigate the complexities of <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>cryptocurrency regulation, potential investors should watch for signs of increased compliance measures. This could lead to a more stable market environment, potentially benefiting legitimate mining operations.

Key Takeaways

The hidden <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>Bitcoin mine discovery highlights ongoing issues surrounding illegal mining in Brazil.

Brazil’s fiscal outlook for 2026 is under scrutiny as the 10-year government bond yield surged to 14.6% in July. This increase is primarily driven by disappointing fiscal data and rising public debt, which has now reached 81.1% of GDP. Investors are becoming increasingly concerned about the sustainability of the country’s finances, as evident from the widening primary deficit that stood at R$56.1 billion—higher than anticipated. As Brazil navigates these fiscal challenges, understanding the implications for bond markets and investor strategies is crucial.

Background & Context

Brazil’s economic landscape has shifted significantly in recent months. The alarming rise in gross public debt above the market’s expectations has raised red flags among investors. In May, the debt was projected at 80.7% of GDP, yet it climbed to 81.1%, indicating deeper fiscal issues at play. Additionally, the primary deficit expanded beyond forecasts, amplifying concerns over Brazil’s ability to meet its financial obligations. Political dynamics further complicate the situation; a recent survey revealed President Lula’s lead over Flávio Bolsonaro, raising expectations for a more expansionary fiscal policy that could exacerbate the current fiscal strain.

Market Impact & Analysis: Brazil Fiscal Outlook 2026

The rising bond yields reflect a bearish sentiment in the market, where investors are pricing in higher borrowing costs amidst deteriorating fiscal conditions. The increase in the 10-year bond yield to 14.6% signals a lack of confidence in Brazil’s fiscal management. The market reaction is not merely a reaction to numbers but also a reflection of the broader economic sentiment surrounding potential political shifts and inflationary pressures. Inflation, which rose to exceed 4.8%—above the central bank’s upper tolerance limit—adds another layer of complexity to the fiscal outlook, as it erodes purchasing power and further constrains economic growth.

Expert Perspective

According to financial analysts, the implications of Brazil’s fiscal outlook are profound. As government borrowing becomes costlier, businesses may face tighter credit conditions, slowing investment and economic growth. The political landscape adds uncertainty, with the potential for more expansionary fiscal policies that could lead to higher inflation. Experts suggest that investors should closely monitor the government’s fiscal strategies and inflation trajectory to navigate the risk effectively.

What This Means for Investors

For investors, the current fiscal outlook in Brazil presents both risks and opportunities. Rising bond yields may deter some investors, but they could also present buying opportunities for those willing to take on the risk associated with Brazil’s economic landscape. Diversifying investments and considering foreign exchange dynamics, particularly the USD/BRL pair, may be prudent strategies moving forward. Additionally, investors should stay informed about potential political developments that could impact fiscal policies and economic conditions in Brazil.

Key Takeaways

Brazil’s 10-year bond yield has reached 14.6% amid fiscal concerns.

Gross public debt is at 81.1% of GDP, exceeding market expectations.

The primary deficit widened to R$56.1 billion, indicating ongoing fiscal stress.

Political uncertainty may lead to more expansionary fiscal policies.

Investors should assess the implications of rising inflation and bond yields.

Brazil’s <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>cryptocurrency market has surged to a remarkable $318 billion in on-chain value within a year, positioning the country as a major player in Latin America’s digital asset landscape. However, this explosive growth is accompanied by serious warnings from blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis regarding emerging money laundering risks associated with this burgeoning market.

Background & Context

Between July 2024 and June 2025, Brazil accounted for about one-third of all <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>cryptocurrency value transacted in Latin America. The nation’s impressive market growth can be attributed to several factors, including a digitally savvy population, a vibrant fintech sector, and a growing appetite for stablecoins as a hedge against inflation. However, as the volume of transactions increases, so do the risks associated with illicit activities, particularly money laundering.

Market Impact & Analysis: Brazil <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>Crypto Market Money Laundering Risks 2026

The alarming report from Chainalysis highlights the urgent need for enhanced compliance measures in Brazil’s <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto sector. The firm has flagged increasing money laundering risks as criminals exploit the anonymity provided by on-chain transactions to move illicit funds. This has led to calls for stronger transaction monitoring systems to prevent illegal activities that could undermine the integrity of Brazil’s financial system.

Expert Perspective or On-Chain Data

Industry experts suggest that Brazil’s Central Bank must adopt a proactive approach to compliance as it prepares to launch its own digital currency initiative. The integration of a central bank digital currency (CBDC) will necessitate robust infrastructure to monitor transactions effectively. Without such measures, the risk of money laundering could escalate, potentially deterring legitimate investment in the market.

What This Means for Investors

Investors in Brazil’s <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto market should remain vigilant as these compliance challenges unfold. The central bank’s efforts to regulate the market will likely lead to increased scrutiny on transactions. Consequently, investors may face additional barriers to entry, but they can also benefit from a more secure trading environment. Understanding the implications of this regulatory landscape will be crucial for making informed investment decisions.

Key Takeaways

Brazil’s <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto market reached $318 billion from July 2024 to June 2025.

Chainalysis warns of rising money laundering risks associated with on-chain transactions.

The Central Bank of Brazil is set to launch a digital currency initiative.

Enhanced compliance measures are essential to mitigate illicit activities.

Investors should prepare for a more regulated trading environment.

Background & Context

<a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>Bitcoin mining has become a contentious topic worldwide as countries grapple with balancing economic benefits against environmental concerns. In Brazil, the legality of <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>Bitcoin mining is not in question; however, the theft of electricity to power these operations is illegal. The São Paulo State Property Crime Investigation Department, working alongside regional utility CPFL Piratininga, led this recent raid, indicating a growing focus on enforcing regulations against energy theft.

The importance of this action is amplified by Brazil’s recent legislation passed in March 2026, allowing for the seizure and liquidation of digital assets associated with criminal activities. The proceeds from such liquidations are earmarked to boost public security efforts. This law not only strengthens the government’s ability to combat illegal operations but also serves as a potential model for other nations facing similar challenges.

Market Impact & Analysis: Brazil Illegal <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>Bitcoin Mining Operation 2026

The impact of the seizure on the <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>Bitcoin market may not be immediately apparent, but it could have far-reaching implications. The shutdown of 1,400 mining rigs means a significant reduction in hash power on the network. For legitimate miners, this can be a boon, as it reduces competition for block rewards, potentially increasing their profitability. As hash rates decrease, the remaining miners may see an uptick in their earnings per block mined.

Moreover, the crackdown on illegal mining operations reinforces the notion that regulatory frameworks are evolving. If more countries adopt similar laws and enforcement strategies, it could lead to a more stable and legitimate mining environment globally. As governments recognize the potential for revenue generation through the liquidation of seized assets, the incentives to regulate and control mining activities will likely grow.

Expert Perspective on the Situation

Experts in the <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>cryptocurrency field suggest that this crackdown is part of a larger trend towards regulatory clarity in the <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto space. According to Marcela Mendes, a Brazilian <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto analyst, “The seizure of these rigs is a clear signal from the Brazilian government that they are serious about regulating the industry. It opens the door for legitimate miners to operate in a more stable environment, fostering growth in the sector.”

What This Means for Investors

For investors, these developments highlight the importance of compliance and the potential risks associated with illegal mining operations. As regulations tighten, investing in cryptocurrencies that are compliant with local laws can mitigate risks. Furthermore, the ongoing crackdown on illegal activities may lead to a more bullish market sentiment among investors who prefer a regulated environment.

Overall, this incident serves as a reminder that while <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>Bitcoin mining presents lucrative opportunities, it must be approached with caution and adherence to legal frameworks. Investors should stay informed about regulatory changes and consider their implications on the market.

Key Takeaways

The Brazilian authorities seized 1,400 illegal <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>Bitcoin mining rigs, impacting hash power.

This bust underscores the importance of regulatory compliance in the <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto industry.

Legitimate miners may benefit from reduced competition as illegal operations are shut down.

Brazil’s new asset seizure law could inspire similar regulations elsewhere.

Investors should be aware of the evolving regulatory landscape when considering <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto investments.

Brazil’s <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto tax policy has taken a backseat as Finance Minister Dario Durigan decides to postpone any major changes until after the presidential elections in October 2026. The decision reflects an effort to avoid divisive fiscal policies during an election year. The focus keyword here is ‘Brazil <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto tax’, which is crucial given the country’s burgeoning interest in cryptocurrencies.

Regulatory Landscape and Future Plans

Initially, Brazilian authorities planned a public consultation on the <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto tax policy for later this year. However, sources indicate that this might be deferred until 2027, although it’s still ‘on the radar.’ This delay comes after regulatory changes in June 2025, where Brazil ended its no tax policy on smaller <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto transactions, introducing a 17.5% flat tax on all <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto capital gains.

Previously, Brazilian residents enjoyed exemptions on capital gains taxes for sales up to 35,000 Brazilian real monthly. This threshold’s removal signifies a shift towards a more structured tax regime, aligning with international standards.

Stablecoins and International Transactions

In November 2025, the Banco Central do Brasil classified stablecoin transfers as foreign currency exchanges, subjecting them to existing tax laws. Additionally, the government is evaluating proposals to tax cryptocurrencies used for cross-border payments, aligning with the Crypto-Asset Reporting Framework (CARF).

This alignment positions Brazil within the global regulatory framework, ensuring that its <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto market remains both competitive and compliant.

<a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>Crypto Adoption in Brazil

Despite regulatory delays, Brazil’s <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto market is thriving. Ranked number five globally on Chainalysis’s <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>Crypto Global Adoption Index and leading in Latin America, Brazil’s <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto adoption is surging. With a median age of 33.5 years and a largely urban population, the country is ripe for technological innovation.

According to Chainalysis, Latin America witnessed a 63% increase in <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto adoption in 2025, underlining the region’s growing appetite for digital assets across both retail and institutional sectors.

As Brazil continues to refine its regulatory approach, the <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto community remains optimistic about the future, anticipating a comprehensive framework that balances innovation with oversight.

The US has officially begun an examination of Brazil’s digital trade practices, with a primary focus on Pix, a state-run instant payment system that has swiftly ousted private sector competitors from the market. The investigation was announced on Tuesday by US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer.

The aim of the probe is to determine if the digital and trade policies in Brazil are imposing undue disadvantages on American firms. Greer highlighted that the investigation intends to scrutinize Brazil’s “tariff and non-tariff barriers,” suggesting that the country provides preferential treatment to certain trade partners while leaving US exporters at a disadvantage. The investigation will also delve into Brazil’s alleged penalization of US tech companies that do not adhere to censorship of political speech.

In 2024, there was a nationwide ban on social media platform X in Brazil after Elon Musk declined to assign a legal representative in the country. This order was issued by Brazil’s Supreme Federal Court in August 2024.

This probe signals the latest surge in tension between the two nations. Former US President Trump expressed his dissent on social media on July 7, urging Brazilian authorities to halt the prosecution of ex-President Jair Bolsonaro, which he described as a “witch hunt.” Shortly after, Trump threatened a new investigation in a letter addressed to Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, coupled with a 50% tariff on Brazilian imports from August 1.

Pix, introduced in 2020 by the Central Bank of Brazil, is an instant payment system that operates round the clock, enabling people to send and receive money instantly at negligible or no costs. Pix has reshaped the Brazilian digital economy, with over 150 million users and more than 60 million businesses employing it. The US probe intends to uncover if Brazil has been unfairly promoting its local payment system over established American alternatives like Mastercard, Visa, and other US fintech companies.

While Pix operates only within Brazil, its influence is part of a larger shift that has raised concerns among US officials. Crypto-fintech platforms like Truther enable global users to send stablecoins and settle instantly into bank accounts via Pix, bypassing traditional financial systems such as SWIFT, PayPal, and US remittance services like Western Union. This transition has significant implications for global finance and domestic payments.

Furthermore, Brazil’s role in the BRICS economic bloc — with Russia, India, China, and South Africa — is part of a collective effort to lessen reliance on the US dollar and Western financial infrastructure. In 2024, the bloc adopted “BRICS Pay,” a cross-border payments platform designed to facilitate local-currency transactions and circumvent SWIFT. This move has reportedly ruffled feathers at the US end.

In 2025, Brazil introduced a significant change in its <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>cryptocurrency taxation policy through Provisional Measure 1303. This new regulation replaced the prior progressive tax model with a flat 17.5% tax on all <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>cryptocurrency capital gains, irrespective of the total earnings or the location of the assets. This marks the termination of a long-standing exemption that enabled individuals to sell up to 35,000 Brazilian reais (approximately $6,300) in <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto tax-free each month.

The new tax policy applies universally, whether the assets are on local or international exchanges, self-custody wallets, or even across decentralized finance (DeFi), non-fungible tokens (NFTs), or staking platforms. All digital asset activities are subject to taxation. Taxes are calculated quarterly, and losses can be carried forward for up to five previous quarters. However, this window will be shortened in 2026.

Prior to this change, small investors and casual traders enjoyed a generous tax exemption for trades up to 35,000 reais per month. Moreover, larger profits were taxed progressively. Once the threshold was crossed, a 15% tax was levied on gains up to 5 million reais, and a 22.5% tax on gains exceeding 30 million reais (approximately $5.4 million). This structure meant that hobbyists usually paid nothing, moderate traders paid moderately, and only the largest investors faced the highest tax rates.

The immediate impact of the new tax rules is felt by everyday users. Casual traders who previously stayed below the 35,000-real monthly cap are now fully taxed at 17.5%. For example, a modest 30,000-real profit, previously tax-free, now incurs a 5,250-real liability. This flat-rate model significantly affects small investors and gig-economy traders.

Under the new policy, medium-scale investors now face a 17.5% tax, up from the previous 15% on gains under 5 million reais. However, the new system can reduce the tax burden for high-net-worth traders. Previously, gains over 30 million reais were taxed at 22.5%. Now, that’s capped at 17.5%, leading to substantial savings on large positions.

The 17.5% flat tax now applies to digital assets held outside of centralized Brazilian exchanges, closing a major loophole that allowed tax avoidance through foreign platforms or cold storage. Furthermore, new sectors like DeFi lending, staking rewards, and NFT trades are explicitly included in the tax regime. Returns from yield farming or NFT sales are now taxed like any other <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto gain.

The introduction of Provisional Measure 1303 is a major step in Brazil’s fiscal strategy. Rather than continuing with piecemeal tax hikes, Brazil has now opted for structural change. The move to tax digital assets, fixed-income investments, and online betting revenues is part of a broader Brazilian tax reform in 2025, aimed at expanding the tax base with more permanent and enforceable policies.

This announcement was made as part of Provisional Measure 1303, reflecting the government’s efforts to increase revenue via financial market taxes.

Previously, Brazilian residents who disposed of up to 35,000 Brazilian reals (approximately $6,300) in <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto assets every month were not subjected to income tax. Any gains beyond this limit were progressively taxed, starting at 15% and escalating to as much as 22.5% for volumes surpassing 30 million Brazilian reals.

The new flat rate, effective from June 12, eliminates all exemptions and uniformly applies to all investors, regardless of their transaction sizes, reveals a report by local news outlet, Portal do <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>Bitcoin.

While this change implies higher taxes for smaller investors, wealthy individuals may end up paying less. Previously, huge trades exceeding 5 million Brazilian reals, were taxed between 17.5% and 22.5%. With the new 17.5% uniform rate, many large-scale investors will experience a decrease in their effective tax rate.

Brazil’s provisional measure also widens the tax base, now encompassing <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto assets held in self-custody wallets and offshore <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto holdings. Taxation will now be assessed on a quarterly basis, with investors allowed to offset losses from the preceding five quarters. However, this loss deduction window will be more stringent from 2026.

Brazil also has plans to allow <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>Bitcoin salary payments. In March, Brazilian legislators proposed a bill that would allow employers to pay a portion of their employees’ salaries in cryptocurrencies such as <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>Bitcoin (BTC). However, under these proposed rules, <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto payments should not exceed 50% of an employee’s salary. Full <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto payments would only be permissible for foreign workers or contractors, and only under specific conditions outlined by Brazil’s central bank.

A Brazilian court has imposed a historic 128-year jail term on the chief orchestrator of the money laundering operation linked to the Braiscompany <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>cryptocurrency Ponzi scheme. The fraudulent scheme, which commenced in June 2018 and ended with its demise in early 2023, swindled over 20,000 investors of approximately 1.11 billion reais ($190 million).

The court found Joel Ferreira de Souza guilty of using fictitious corporations and surrogate accounts to cleanse the ill-gotten gains from the Braiscompany swindle. This sentence is one of the longest ever dealt in Brazil for financial misconduct.

His offspring, Victor Augusto Veronez de Souza, was given a 15-year jail term for his part in the scheme. Notably, Gesana Rayane Silva, a top broker, was sentenced to 27 years and 10 months, on top of earlier convictions, totaling her jail term to over 40 years, as per regional media sources. However, Mizael Moreira Silva and Clélio Fernando Cabral do Ó were exonerated of money laundering charges due to lack of substantial evidence.

Antônio “Neto” Ais and Fabrícia Farias Campos, the founders of Braiscompany and a married couple, were sentenced in February 2024 to 88 years and 7 months and 61 years and 11 months, respectively. After spending more than a year evading law enforcement, they were finally captured in Argentina. Currently, they are under house arrest awaiting extradition to Brazil.

Braiscompany lured investors with an 8% monthly return on <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>cryptocurrency that was “locked” with the firm for a year. Despite its aggressive client recruitment strategies and claims of prominent <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto affiliations, Braiscompany started defaulting on payments in 2022 and by January 2023, disbursements had almost entirely ceased.

In response, Brazil’s federal law enforcement initiated a nationwide operation in February 2023, dubbed Operation Halving. This led to a raid on the company’s offices and the subsequent flight of its founders. The recent sentencing against de Souza is from a distinct lawsuit focusing on Braiscompany’s money laundering activity.

Bitget, a leading global <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>cryptocurrency exchange, has revved up its entry into Brazil’s <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto market through a partnership with the Porsche Cup Brasil 2025. This marks Bitget’s debut in the world of high-speed racing, supporting professional driver Flávio Sampaio with an eye-catching, Bitget-branded Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. This alliance highlights the increasing interplay between innovative finance and high-octane sports.

The Porsche Cup Brasil 2025, which reportedly started its season in March and will continue until November, gathers the finest racing professionals from Latin America. Bitget’s sponsorship not only puts its name on the racetrack but also sets a precedent as the first <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>cryptocurrency exchange to participate in this esteemed event.

Bitget’s foray into sports sponsorships is nothing new. The company has previously collaborated with sports icons like Lionel Messi from 2022 to 2024 and sponsored Juventus’ women’s football team. Sports remain a significant marketing avenue for the exchange. Bitget also extends support to renowned athletes like Turkish wrestling champion Buse Tosun Çavuşoğlu, gold-medal-winning boxer Samet Gümüş, and national volleyball player İlkin Aydın.

With Brazil’s <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto market witnessing rapid growth, boasting over 40 million digital asset users, Bitget’s presence in the Porsche Cup Brasil further solidifies its position in this crucial market. The partnership promises to enhance visibility amongst an audience that appreciates precision, strategy, and performance – critical elements in both racing and investing.

Additionally, the collaboration offers fans exclusive experiences like VIP access to the Paddock Terrace, live race insights, and a chance to ride with professional drivers wearing Bitget-branded helmets. These initiatives are aimed at fostering a deeper connection between the <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://www.gate.com/share/CRYPTOUD" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto community and motorsport fans.

With a Bitget-branded Porsche 911 GT3 Cup competing in Latin America’s most significant Grand Touring competition, the exchange plans to broaden its services in the region.
