Spanish national tax agency has sent 14,800 warning letters to crypto holders who have not declared their <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto assets. According to news.<a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536><a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>Bitcoin.com, citing Telemadrid, the Hacienda Tax Service obliged taxpayers to declare their <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto holdings in their tax filings. In case they do not declare those assets, they could receive fines in the amount of over 5,000 euros.

The source says, citing the tax agency, that the tax notice does not concern simply purchasing or holding <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto. However, if taxpayers profited, then they have to declare those gains. That is, for example, in the case of exchanging <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto for other <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto or fiat currencies, or buying goods. Interestingly though, according to the source, the tax agency sent out many more letters last year, targeting 66,000 <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto holders.

Cryptocurrency regulations vary from country to country. Moreover, with the popularity of <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto growing, more countries might be adopting stricter regulations to prevent tax evasion or money laundering activities. In March, the tax agency in South Korea caught over 2,400 taxpayers who were evading paying taxes by hiding their income in <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto. In addition, in Canada, to prevent tax evasion, the Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA) last month requested client data of crypto trading platform Coinsquare.

As per a court ruling last week, Canadian <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto trading platform Coinsquare will have to provide Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA) with client data, National Post reports. Specifically, the platform has to share the information of certain clients. These include clients who made a deposit or held <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto in their accounts worth $20,000 or more. Other data includes information about the top 16,500 active users in the period between 2014-2020. According to the source, such a request from the tax agency is to ensure that <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto holders pay their taxes.

Regulations on <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto vary from country to country and authorities take measures against those who evade paying tax. In the U.S., Internal Revenue Service (IRS), for instance, this month launched a program under the name “Operation Hidden Treasure.” It is designed to keep track of the <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto income of the taxpayers who did not report it on the tax form.

In India, the government made it compulsory for companies to disclose <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto investments or trading activities, Business Today reports. According to the source, experts expect taxation regulations to follow. The Indian government has been discussing the introduction of a law that would ban all private cryptocurrencies. As a result, this law could make it illegal to hold or trade <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto.
