Grayscale’s Q4 Review: Altcoins Under Consideration

In an official statement, Grayscale categorized the altcoins into five distinct groups: Currencies, Smart Contract Platforms, Financials, Consumer & Culture, and Utilities & Services. The company clarified that these assets are currently not part of any Grayscale product but could potentially be included in future offerings.

The Currencies group features notable names such as Kaspa (KAS). The Smart Contract Platforms group includes Aptos (APTUSD), Arbitrum (ARBUSD), Celestia (TIAUSD), and others like Polygon (POL ex. MATIC), Starknet (STRK), and TRON (TRX).

In the Financials category, altcoins such as Aerodrome (AERO), Injective Protocol (INJ), and THORChain (RUNE) are listed. The Consumer & Culture section notably includes Dogecoin (DOGEUSD) and Immutable (IMXUSD), while the Utilities & Services category features assets like Akash (AKT), Arweave (AR), Helium (HNTUSD), and Worldcoin (WLDUSD).

Grayscale’s evaluation of altcoins could evolve every quarter, depending on market changes and project developments. Additionally, the firm highlighted six new names in its Q4 list, reflecting its growing interest in areas like AI, DePin, and prediction markets. Some of these new names include Optimism (OP), Sui (SUI), Celo (CELOUSD), and Helium (HNTUSD).

Grayscale’s inclusion of these projects showcases their ongoing dedication to identifying emerging opportunities in the ever-evolving world of crypto. With a portfolio currently exceeding $20 billion in managed digital assets, Grayscale remains a key player in the crypto investment space.

Recently, the overall value of cryptocurrency swelled above $3 trillion in November. Well,  thanks to the new investors, including a few of the Congress members.

Further, the foremost name on the list of the Congress is Sen Cynthia Lummis (R-WY). She is a famous crypto booster who has formerly disclosed that she owns Bitcoin. As reported by a filing from earlier this year, Lummis bought up to $100,000 worth of Bitcoin. Also, she used a platform called River for this purpose. 

Another Congress member, Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-NJ), disclosed he holds up to $250,000. He holds up this investment trust with crypto giant Grayscale. On the other hand, freshman Rep. Jake Auchincloss (D-MA) reported owning $1,000-$15,000 of equity in Flipside Crypto’s crypto analytics firm.

Moreover, other crypto owners in Congress are Rep. Barry Moore (R-AL). He disclosed that he invested $15,000 in cryptocurrency. However, he doesn’t disclose more details about the coins he bought or obtained. 

In addition, Marie Newman (D-Il) also demonstrated that her husband had exchanged the Coinbase stock at least 16 times.  Also, this exchange includes a recent trade valued at  $50,000 to $100,000 and brought up to $50,000 in Grayscale’s Bitcoin Trust.

Furthermore, Congress has 535 voting House members and Senators in total. So, it may be possible that others are also owning the crypto. They also have bought the crypto but failed to disclose it.

Tinkoff Investments Initial Strategy

Dmitry Panchenko, the head of Tinkoff Investments, recently interviewed the regional news agency TASS. He disclosed that the brokering service platform is currently working on the research and development of cryptocurrency-relevant services. 

However, he didn’t disclose any certain project ideas. Further, Tinkoff’s investments head expressed that they are still examining particular crypto investment services and are at the research stage. Thus, they still do not have a particular context or framework for such products.

Panchenko accepted that “brokers can’t provide these services legally” in Russia. Moreover, he clarified that Tinkoff Investments is especially considering crypto products. For example, products from the app platforms like Revolut and Robinhood and international payment giants like Paypal.

Panchenko also expressed that he has all eyes on what is happening in the world with Paypal, Robinhood, and Revolut. Crypto is evaluated around the world, but in Russia, this is not happening yet. 

Central Bank’s Tough Policy

According to Blockchain News in June, Tinkoff  Bank declared that they wished to offer Crypto trading services through Tinkoff Investments. Further, on the 3^rd of June, Oliver Hughes, CEO of Tinkoff, expressed his desire to invest in Crypto in Russia. 

At the end of May, the Central Bank governor, Elvira Nabiullina, specified that digital currency was the “country’s financial system future,” hinting to the Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs), not Crypto.

According to CoinMarketCap, Bitcoin is down 2.35% in 24 hours and has lost 5.15% of its value in the last week. The pullback has tested support around $60,000; however, a trend reversal might take place.

The investors are hopeful that BTC’s price will reach $70,000 in the next few days, making the dip more attractive. According to some predictions and key figures, the world-leading cryptocurrency will close the year around $100,000. Talking about the Relative Strenght Index (RSI), it shows that bears have the upper with increasing aggression. Similar to the MACD, the RSI follows BTC’s trends and calculates the bulls’ and bears’ strength. When RSI drops, it shows that the sellers have more influence.

However, these dips will keep attracting more investors, allowing them to buy lower while anticipating higher gains.

Billionaire Makie Novogratz talked about the crypto market on CNBC’s Squawk Box. He said that the reason behind the price surge of Bitcoin and Ether is the increase of new crypt-enthusiast investors. He had the following remarks on the bullish resurgences of Bitcoin:

“I literally see a scenario where we take out the highs in Bitcoin, and we have one of these parabolic moves in all of the crypto going into the fourth quarter.”

 Many new investors were observed at the start of this year as the bull market first slid into full gear. However, the recent change of events is triggering a new wave of entrants into the crypto market. Crypto analytics platform Glassnode tweeted on Oct. 7 that:

“Bitcoin Entities in Profit has risen to 94.3%. Over 16.2% of all on-chain entities have returned to profit since the Sept lows. The last time this many network entities were in profit was before the sell-off in May.”

With leading a 35% rally, Bitcoin soars far above the $50K resistance level this week. This resulted in a $1 trillion market capitalization to the asset.

JPMorgan shared a note with clients on Thursday which said that the recent increase in BTC’s price is mainly due to the inflation hedge by institutional investors. It said: “The re-emergence of inflation concerns among investors has renewed interest in the usage of Bitcoin as an inflation hedge.” 

The analysts argued about the shift in perception as to the gains of BTC as compared to gold. They also mentioned:

“Institutional investors appear to be returning to Bitcoin perhaps seeing it as a better inflation hedge than gold.”

JP Morgan offered two factors that are resulting in the current rally. According to analysts:

“The recent assurances by US policymakers that there is no intention to follow China’s steps towards banning the usage or mining of cryptocurrencies.” “The recent rise of the Lightning Network and 2nd layer payments solutions helped by El Salvador’s Bitcoin adoption.”

At the time of writing, BTC currently trades at $53,786.67, according to CoinMarketCap.

Despite the growing interest of some divisions of JPMorgan in crypto and Blockchain, their CEO stated in an interview that he is a doubter of BTC and compared it to “a little bit of fool’s gold.”

The new laws are to be aimed at protecting crypto investors from rampant fraud and Ponzi schemes. Of late there have been multiple reports of crypto investment scams where investors have lost significant sums of money.

It has also been reported that lawmakers in the country are planning to bring in new legislation for crypto investments. The focus would be on limiting crypto investments from non-accredited investors. 

“Digital currencies are subject to our enhanced focus, and we will look to provide maximum protection for our citizens who invest in digital assets because it is a new instrument, and it is quite difficult for an unskilled investor,” chairman of the Russian State Duma Committee on Financial Markets explained.

With the growing popularity of cryptocurrencies, several countries are reconsidering their cryptocurrency approach. Recently, China completely banned cryptocurrencies and their use following which Alibaba, the global B2B eCommerce giant prohibited the sale of any crypto mining equipment. 

Several countries in Europe including the UK have imposed stricter measures to protect cryptocurrency investments. Now local investment platforms and exchanges will have to comply with local regulations.
