Balancer Hack Fund Distribution: A community proposal has been introduced to distribute the funds recovered from the $116 million exploit on Balancer protocol. This proposal, submitted by two community members, outlines a strategic approach for reimbursing affected parties.

Understanding the Balancer Hack

The Balancer hack was a significant event in 2025, resulting in a loss of $116 million. Fortunately, efforts by white hat hackers, internal rescuers, and StakeWise, an Ether liquid staking platform, led to the recovery of approximately $28 million. Of this, $8 million was reclaimed by the white hat hackers and internal teams, while StakeWise recovered an additional $20 million for its users.

The Proposed Distribution Plan

The proposal focuses on the non-socialized distribution of the recovered $8 million. This means that reimbursements are specifically targeted at the liquidity pools that incurred losses, ensuring funds are distributed on a pro-rata basis to holders of Balancer Pool Tokens (BPT).

Moreover, the proposal suggests reimbursements be made in-kind. Victims will receive compensation in the same tokens they initially lost, avoiding any potential discrepancies in asset pricing.

Security Insights and Community Response

The Balancer hack is considered one of the “most sophisticated” attacks according to Deddy Lavid, CEO of blockchain cybersecurity firm Cyvers. This incident underscores the evolving nature of security threats in the <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto space and the critical need for robust safety measures.

Despite Balancer undergoing 11 audits by top blockchain security firms, vulnerabilities still existed. The attack exploited a rounding function flaw within the platform’s Stable Pools, allowing the attacker to manipulate value calculations and execute a batched swap to drain funds.

Impact on <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>Crypto Auditing

This breach has prompted discussions within the <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto community about the effectiveness of audits and their role in ensuring code safety. The Balancer platform’s experience serves as a reminder of the limitations of audits and the importance of continuous security enhancements.

The community remains hopeful that the proposed distribution plan will mitigate the impact on affected users and restore trust in the Balancer protocol.
