The blockchain network has outlined its objectives for the rest of 2025 and 2026, which include raising the block gas limit from 100 million to 1 billion to accommodate a growing user base and ensure fluid functionality across decentralized applications (DApps).

A high-throughput-optimized Rust-based client is being rolled out for improved performance. This system will leverage Ethereum’s Reth architecture with some adjustments, promising faster node synchronization, better memory management, and efficient execution of smart contracts.

The BNB Chain team views this upgrade as a crucial step for future-proofing the network.

The network also plans to introduce Super Instructions – an optimized set of smart contract functions that consolidates multiple operations into one action. This would simplify complex actions such as token swaps and launch events.

The StateDB system will be enhanced to minimize redundant data access and ensure faster execution across a larger data set. The StateDB, a component of the blockchain system, handles accounts, balances, smart contracts, and their data. After the upgrade, the blockchain should be faster, more user-friendly, and capable of executing complex transactions more efficiently.

By 2026, BNB Chain aspires to develop a blockchain framework capable of processing 20,000 transactions per second (TPS) with confirmation times under 150 milliseconds. This framework will feature native privacy functions, upgradable virtual machines, and user-friendly tools to give users the convenience of a centralized exchange with the granular control of Web3.

“The next phase of BNB Chain will make onchain access as intuitive as logging into your favorite app, while still giving you full control of your assets,” BNB Chain stated.

Meanwhile, Ethereum is also gearing up for the coming years. Ethereum Foundation developer Sophia Gold revealed on July 11 that the network is getting ready to integrate zero-knowledge technology into the mainnet. Additionally, Ethereum supporters are advocating for layer-1 networks to transition to Ethereum layer-2s, with Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin suggesting a minimalist approach to constructing layer-2 networks.
