However, an unexpected partnership between a Denver-based mining company and the government of a gas-rich Middle Eastern country sets a horizon for a positive role of crypto in cutting fossil fuel waste. 

On Wednesday, June 1 Bloomberg reported that Crusoe Energy, an operator repurposing wasted fuel energy to the computational power of crypto mining. They would start their work in Oman. We all know that Oman is a nation that exports 21% of its gas production.

US Energy Company Prospects and Plans

The American company will open an office in the capital city of Muscat. They have a plan to install its equipment for capturing gas waste at well sites. It already held a workshop with the Omani largest energy producers, OQ SAOC and Petroleum Development Oman. Furthermore, the first pilot project will be launched by the end of this year or in early 2023. This is the statement of Crusoe’s CEO Chase Lochmiller.

Oman’s government interest in the partnership is driven by an aim to cut the country’s gas flaring. Further, they are burning off the excessive flammable gas in the process of extraction.

In an official statement, Lochmiller emphasized his company’s mission to set a presence in the Middle East and Northern Africa. Also, he emphasized that they want to help local governments in their fight against flaring:

“Having the buy-in from nations that are actively trying to solve the flaring issues is what we are looking for.” In March, media reported that Exxon Mobil partnered with Crusoe to run a pilot project of Bitcoin mining at the Bakken shale basin in North Dakota. However, this information is not official by the companies.

The lawsuit was filed by William in San Francisco, and William and his fellow investors want the case to be in the category of the Class Action. 

They are demanding an undisclosed amount of money in compensation for all punitive and compensatory damages.

Further to provide proof that spambots do not exceed 5% of the social media’s total user base. In the lawsuit filing, the investors said the company’s proposed acquisition is currently under “major peril”. It is in great peril since the Tesla shares that Musk pledged. As a merger to acquire the firm, it had slumped from $1,000. Further, the deal was unveiled at $709 at the time of writing.

Also, Musk is still quite committed to the investment, and he reportedly got a new $6.25 billion equity funding earlier this week. North Korea is famous for the “habitual” firing of ballistic missiles. They are also passionate about stealing other countries’ crypto.

On Thursday (Feb. 10), North Korea accused the US of stealing funds and committing underhanded cybercrime. They accused the US just days after the United Nations accused Pyongyang of conducting cyberattacks on crypto exchanges worldwide.

As per the reports by the North Korean officials, the US is a “hacking king, a wire-tapping regime and an expert in covert theft.”

Although the UN observers did not specifically cite the US. They are claiming that the information is from a “member nation”. They’ve also referenced data gathered by the American firm Chainalysis on alleged North Korean crypto raids.

According to South Korean news outlet EDaily, the North’s foreign ministry debunked UN monitors’ recent assertions. They‘ve put the assertion that North Korean hackers harvested over $50 million between 2020 and mid-2021.

Further, Kumsuki has also been linked to an attack, according to security firm Ahn Labs, that makes use of malicious Microsoft Word documents.

Moreover, the North Korean ministry alleged that claims of crypto bomb constituted an “assault” on the country’s “sovereignty”. They’ve cited them as examples of “disgusting behaviour” that the ministry would not condone.

Furthermore, It added that Washington is using humanity’s common virtual grounds “to achieve its hegemony objectives.”

In addition, Experts in Seoul and Washington claimed in 2019 that Pyongyang had trained a group of at least 30 “elite cyber warriors”. They’ve directed them to infiltrate Western and Western-allied crypto targets with reckless abandon.

Meanwhile, Pyongyang is said to be not content to keep its crypto stash indefinitely. The South Korean experts claim that North Korean hackers’ final obstacle is selling off their stolen crypto assets.

With leading a 35% rally, Bitcoin soars far above the $50K resistance level this week. This resulted in a $1 trillion market capitalization to the asset.

JPMorgan shared a note with clients on Thursday which said that the recent increase in BTC’s price is mainly due to the inflation hedge by institutional investors. It said: “The re-emergence of inflation concerns among investors has renewed interest in the usage of Bitcoin as an inflation hedge.” 

The analysts argued about the shift in perception as to the gains of BTC as compared to gold. They also mentioned:

“Institutional investors appear to be returning to Bitcoin perhaps seeing it as a better inflation hedge than gold.”

JP Morgan offered two factors that are resulting in the current rally. According to analysts:

“The recent assurances by US policymakers that there is no intention to follow China’s steps towards banning the usage or mining of cryptocurrencies.” “The recent rise of the Lightning Network and 2nd layer payments solutions helped by El Salvador’s Bitcoin adoption.”

At the time of writing, BTC currently trades at $53,786.67, according to CoinMarketCap.

Despite the growing interest of some divisions of JPMorgan in crypto and Blockchain, their CEO stated in an interview that he is a doubter of BTC and compared it to “a little bit of fool’s gold.”

According to a recent survey, the number of Bitcoin investors in the US has increased by over 300% since 2018. The study reveals that millennial investors in the US are actively investing in crypto. Overall, the number of bitcoin investors has risen from 2% to 6%. It means 6% of investors in the US are currently owning Bitcoin.

While young investors are more likely owners, the number of investors over 50 has also grown significantly. The survey also reveals that there are a significant number of investors who would want to invest in Bitcoins. Seasoned investors like hedge fund executives and wealth managers have heavily invested in Bitcoin. About 80% of them have been confirmed to be owning Bitcoins. 

Compared with Gold, which has over 11% investors, Bitcoin is not far behind. With 6% it is catching up and soon will be in a position to beat the most popular precious metal.
