Does the Bitcoin Lamborghini meme ring a bell? It surfaced over a decade ago, reflecting an era when buying a Lambo with Bitcoin would have cost over 200 BTC. Fast forward to today, and you can get your hands on a Lamborghini with just one Bitcoin.
For those who don’t know, the story of Bitcoin and Lamborghini goes back to 2013. An anonymous buyer turned heads when they walked into Lamborghini Newport Beach dealership, known for accepting Bitcoin payments, and bought a brand-new 2014 Gallardo for 216.8433 BTC, equivalent to $208,315 at the time.
The dealership’s marketing director, Cedric Davy, was taken aback when the buyer publicized the transaction. This led to an influx of customers desiring to purchase vehicles with Bitcoin. The event became symbolic of the Bitcoin dream, where early adopters who held onto their assets reaped massive rewards when Bitcoin’s value catapulted from under $1 to over $1,000.
Fast forward to the present, Lamborghini Newport Beach lists the starting price of a Lamborghini Huracan (the successor to the Gallardo) at $249,865. The top-tier Huracan STO starts at $344,778. With Bitcoin’s value surpassing $110,000, it’s evident that you no longer need 216.8433 BTC to buy a new Lamborghini. In fact, with that amount, you could buy an entire dealership, worth $24 million.
However, a single Bitcoin might not be enough for a brand-new Huracan. But don’t worry, you can always check out the used car market. One crypto enthusiast, Your Friend Andy, found a used 2006 Gallardo with less than 17,000 miles on the clock for just one Bitcoin.
Today’s popular US car websites list several Gallardos available for purchase with one Bitcoin. Some even cost as low as 0.85 BTC, leaving you with some leftover Bitcoin for maintenance or upgrades. Paying with Bitcoin has become far more convenient than it was 12 years ago.
