It is noticed by a significant drop in floor prices for some of the biggest collections in the NFT market.

In the recent crypto meltdown, the NFT market has taken a hit!

The floor prices for many of the most valuable NFT collections have tanked along with Bitcoin and Ethereum, with the entry price for some collections dropping by more than 17%.

Here the “floor price” refers to the cheapest piece available on the secondary market. It’s a popular metric for determining the value of NFT collections. 

What Different NFT Data Shows in the Crypto Meltdown?

According to NFTGo data, the floor price for Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs is down 12.57% in the last 24 hours, falling from around 84 ETH to 73.43 ETH. Meanwhile, the floor price for Moonbirds, one of the standout collections of the year, has plummeted to 14.88 ETH, down 17.33%. Interestingly, CryptoPunks has come out relatively unscathed, with the price for the cheapest Punks falling only 2.67% at the time of writing.

Furthermore, as NFT specialist punk9058 pointed out on Twitter earlier today, OpenSea has seen its wrapped ETH (wETH) trading volume as a percentage of total volume reach a yearly record of 0.2%. wETH trades frequently occur when sellers accept low bids on their assets, indicating that holders may have sold in panic in search of liquidity during the weekend downturn. 

The NFT market has been suffering from the broader crypto meltdown this year. While a handful of collections have defied the downward trend at different points, with Bored Ape Yacht Club leading after topping $430,000 on May 1, the market has struggled to hold up in the latest crash. At a 73.43 ETH floor price, with ETH trading at around $1,260, the cheapest apes are now going for about $92,450. That’s a 78.5% drop from the peak.

Meanwhile, the overall currency market capitalization increased by 31.35 percent to $94.56 billion in the last 24 hours at the time of scripting. It signifies the investors’ substantial sell-off of digital assets. DeFi’s market share volume in crypto was $7.76 billion, 8.2% of all crypto trading volume. The stable coin market had a value of $82.21 billion, 86.94% of the entire cryptocurrency market’s 24-hour turnover.

Why Is Crypto Crashing?

Bitcoin is trading at $25,762.63 as of writing, down from its all-time high of nearly $68,000. Central banks’ interest rates have been hiked, as a result of which cryptocurrency trading has decreased, and their values have fallen. Consider this: Bitcoin’s year-to-date return is down 40%, whereas Ethereum’s is down 50%.

“The crypto market has been under pressure from the Federal Reserve, hiking the interest rates to combat inflation over the past few months. Bitcoin, Ethereum, and most currencies suffered losses over the weekend after a broad sell-off following the data showing US inflation hitting a 40-year high,” said Edul Patel, Co-Founder and CEO of the crypto investment platform Murex.

Billionaire investor Warren Buffett has once again slammed Bitcoin, asserting he “wouldn’t take” all of the BTC in the world for just $25.

The 91-year-old, with a net worth of around $124 billion, is an avid crypto sceptic. He once called Bitcoin “rat poison squared.” His arguments often stem around digital assets offering no tangible value. Moreover, the community has been quick to highlight this occasion. There is a myriad of use cases and utility in crypto that Buffett likely hasn’t researched.

Buffett Is Again on His Crypto Bashing

Speaking at the Berkshire Hathaway Annual Shareholder meeting on April 30, Buffett commented on crypto in relation to the growing mainstream adoption of the sector. He noted that while he has no idea if the value of BTC will increase moving forward, he is sure that “it doesn’t produce anything.”

Buffett argued that he would happily write “a check this afternoon” worth $25 billion for 1% of all the farmland or “apartment houses” in the U.S. Further, they both produce real-world utility, but wouldn’t even spend $25 for 100% of the supply of Bitcoin:

“Now if you told me you own all of the Bitcoin in the world and you offered it to me for $25 I wouldn’t take it because what would I do with it? I’d have to sell it back to you one way or another. It isn’t going to do anything. The apartments are going to produce rent and the farms are going to produce food.”

“Assets, to have value, have to deliver something to somebody. And there’s only one currency that’s accepted,” he added.

Well-known crypto proponents were mocking Buffett’s comments on Twitter over the weekend.

Co-founder of top crypto venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) Marc Andreessen noted that “it’s so wild he says this stuff while nakedly shilling diabetes. This is in reference to an ensemble of See’s Candies boxes and soda cans on Buffett’s desk during the speech.

In response, Tesla CEO and Twitter owner Elon Musk said “haha he says ‘Bitcoin’ so many times.” While MicroStrategy CEO Michael Saylor chimed in that “everyone can’t stop talking about Bitcoin.”

TON used a proof-of-stake mechanism and was established in 2017 geared toward DNS, decentralized services, and instant payments.

Bitcoin prices today plummeted below the $60,000 mark. It is the lowest it has been in the past couple of weeks of bullish performance. At the time of writing, BTC is trading at $58,818.33 and is down 4% in the last 24 hours. However, it is up more than 30% this month, had the best month since February.

Bitcoin has witnessed a drastic upward momentum, enabling it to break the psychological mark of $60K last week. It was the first time BTC reached this milestone since April. Hence, the value stored in the BTC network is record high based on the realized price.

Will Clemente, an on-chain analyst, explained:

“Realized price continues to reach new highs, now over $22,000. This means the amount of value stored in the Bitcoin network is at an all-time high. Realized cap/price is the capitalization of BTC based on the last time a coin moved. (ex: 10 BTC last moved at $1 adds $10 to RC).”

Furthermore, BTC has outperformed commodities so far this year, and there is more room for it to grow. Another market analyst Ali Martinez said:

“Historically, when Bitcoin entity-adjusted dormancy flow reached 1M, it anticipated that BTC was approaching a market top. BTC entity-adjusted dormancy flow is at 483K with a lot of room to go up before the next market top.”

According to the glassnode analysis, bitcoin has more room to grow. So if it breaks the ATH level of $64.8K, the price might continue to increase.
