Apple vulnerability poses significant threats to <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>cryptocurrency users, as the tech giant urges an immediate update of devices to patch a zero-click exploit. This critical flaw allows attackers to compromise iPhones, iPads, and Macs, posing heightened risks for those managing <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto assets.

In a recent advisory, Apple disclosed that the image processing vulnerability has been addressed in updates for macOS Sonoma 14.7.8, macOS Ventura 13.7.8, iPadOS 17.7.10, macOS Sequoia 15.6.1, iOS 18.6.2, and iPadOS 18.6.2. The tech company acknowledged that this vulnerability may have been exploited in sophisticated attacks against selected individuals.

Understanding the Zero-Click Exploit

Cybersecurity experts highlight the zero-click exploit as particularly dangerous for <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto users. This vulnerability can be exploited without any user interaction, making it an attractive target for attackers aiming to access crypto-integrated systems. Such access could lead to financial losses through irreversible transactions.

Juliano Rizzo, CEO at cybersecurity firm Coinspect, explained that an attachment delivered via iMessage could be processed automatically, leading to a device compromise. Attackers could then access wallet data, posing a direct threat to <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>cryptocurrency holders.

Apple Vulnerability Details

The Apple vulnerability affects the Image I/O framework, crucial for reading and writing image file formats. Improper implementation allows attackers to write to out-of-bounds memory areas, potentially executing malicious code on targeted devices.

This vulnerability compromises device security by allowing unauthorized memory access. With device memory holding all active programs, attackers can alter these programs, executing their malicious instructions.

Advice for <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>Crypto Holders

For high-value targets using vulnerable devices for key storage, Rizzo advises migrating to new wallet keys if there are signs of compromise or targeting. He emphasizes securing primary accounts like email and cloud services to prevent further exploitation.

“While patching is critical, immediate account lockdown should not be delayed,” Rizzo notes. He also mentions that system logs, though difficult to interpret, could theoretically reveal anomalies. However, Apple and similar vendors are best positioned to detect exploitation and inform victims directly.

<a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>Crypto users must stay vigilant and implement security measures to protect their assets from such vulnerabilities. Regular updates and awareness of potential threats are crucial in maintaining the security of digital currencies.

Tokenized equities have recently made significant headlines as xStocks, a groundbreaking initiative, has surpassed a staggering $2 billion in trading volume. This remarkable achievement underscores the growing interest and potential of tokenized equities in the financial landscape.

Understanding Tokenized Equities

Launched just a few months ago, xStocks offers investors a novel way to engage with the stock market. By allowing the purchase of tokens that mimic the price movements of popular stocks like Tesla, Apple, and Nvidia, xStocks has created a bridge between traditional stock investing and the burgeoning world of cryptocurrencies.

Trading Volume Milestone

The total trading volume for these tokenized shares has recently crossed the $2 billion mark, according to data from a Dune dashboard. A large proportion of this trading activity, approximately $1.94 billion, has been facilitated through centralized exchanges (CEXs) such as Kraken, Bybit, and Gate. Meanwhile, decentralized exchanges (DEXs) account for $103.8 million of the trading volume.

Popularity and Engagement

Despite the impressive trading numbers, the number of unique holders of xStocks tokens remains relatively modest, with around 25,500 holders. The total assets under management for xStocks stand at $43.6 million, highlighting potential for further growth and adoption.

Leading xStocks

Among the various tokenized options, Tesla’s tokenized stock leads in popularity, boasting over 11,000 holders. Following closely is an S&P 500 token, with nearly 10,000 holders. Other popular tokens include those tracking Apple, Nvidia, and Circle.

The Future of Tokenized Equities

Proponents of tokenized equities are optimistic about the future. Such innovations could democratize access to U.S.-listed stocks for international investors and provide the benefit of 24/7 trading. Notable exchanges like Coinbase and Kraken are exploring further expansion in this arena.

In January, BlackRock’s CEO Larry Fink expressed his desire for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to expedite the approval of tokenized bonds and stocks. Robinhood has also announced plans to offer European users the ability to <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>invest in over 200 tokenized U.S. stocks.

Recent Developments

In recent developments, Backed, along with Kraken, has expanded xStocks’ reach from Solana to the BNB Chain. This move allows users to trade tokenized U.S. equities as BEP-20 tokens, reflecting the industry’s shift towards a multichain, composable future.

Kraken co-CEO Arjun Sethi remarked on the momentum, stating, “The response to xStocks has made one thing increasingly clear — the future of capital markets will be chain-neutral, composable, and multichain by design.”

In a recent turn of events, <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>cryptocurrency exchange Bybit mobilized its team, including a high-ranking executive, to rectify a technical error that impacted a single user unable to complete the Know-Your-Client (KYC) procedure via an Apple-based system.

A May 18 post from the Bybit China Team acknowledged receiving reports about users facing withdrawal limitations on the Bybit platform due to an anomaly in KYC verification when signing in with an Apple ID. The team responded promptly, roping in several departments, including the office of the Chief Operating Officer, Helen Liu.

The operation also involved heads of customer service, risk control, the Chinese-language division, product managers, and the technical team. The exchange worked closely with the user throughout the process.

Post an in-depth internal investigation, Bybit confirmed that this was a “distinct case affecting a single user, and not a widespread issue.” The affected account’s KYC information remained untouched, and the funds were secure at all times.

Bybit’s rapid and large-scale responsive action, which included an executive member, was in response to an issue raised by a single user. Chinese-language <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto influencer EnHeng brought this issue to light. In a separate post, EnHeng shared that he came across a mention of a bug related to Bybit’s Apple ID in a group chat. Upon verifying and confirming the issue, he alerted Bybit.

EnHeng praised the swift response from the staff who assisted the user in regaining access to around $100,000 worth of funds. He said, “This incident really showed the power of influence.”

EnHeng stressed the vulnerability of retail investors in this market and the importance of using resources and influence to advocate for them.

It is not uncommon for users to be locked out of a <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>cryptocurrency exchange account or its features. It is usually an emergency step taken to avert fund losses. A recent instance includes the Phemex <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto exchange suspending withdrawals upon being notified of almost $30 million worth of suspicious outflows. Similarly, Indian <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>cryptocurrency exchange Mudrex temporarily halted <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto withdrawals citing compliance improvements.

The incident reiterates the popular <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>Bitcoin adage: Not your keys, not your coins. This phrase serves as a reminder to <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>Bitcoin and <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto users that true control over assets is only possible with control over the private keys necessary for signing transactions.

Recent developments in a court case involving Apple and Epic Games could significantly impact the <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>cryptocurrency market, sparking a potential bull run. The case resulted in the court ordering Apple to cease its practice of levying fees outside of its iOS applications and banning links to external websites.

Epic Games, the renowned creator of Fortnite, initiated the case against Apple for limiting its app’s reach in the U.S market. The court reaffirmed a 2021 injunction, which Apple had been willfully disregarding, using its considerable app market influence to restrict <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>cryptocurrency apps from achieving their full potential revenue-<a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://wise.prf.hn/click/camref:1011lkhza/pubref:cryptoupdate" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_self" 8432>wise. The new court ruling could pave the way for a more equitable market for <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto developers.

The court highlighted Apple’s anticompetitive pricing tactics and condemned the tech behemoth for its continuous defiance of previous court orders. According to the court, Apple’s actions have impeded fair competition and caused substantial harm to other businesses, particularly emerging <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>cryptocurrency startups. Apple’s interference in app developers’ customer communication and its practice of charging fees for third-party website services were also criticized.

The recent court ruling holds significant implications for <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto apps, allowing them more freedom to explore various business models without the burden of excessive Apple fees. This could potentially trigger a significant <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>cryptocurrency bull run. Despite Android’s popularity among developers, Apple-supported apps still command a substantial market share.

Apple’s restrictive practices have hindered the growth of <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto apps, suppressing a vast amount of potential that may now be unleashed. These practices have particularly hampered the NFT market, which frequently involves monetary transactions outside of apps. The situation had become so dire that Apple users could only view NFTs on their phones and had to resort to alternative methods to purchase their favorite non-fungible tokens.

The court stands firm on its previous ruling that Apple must not engage in anticompetitive practices such as charging fees for purchases made outside of apps. The ruling also prohibits Apple from monitoring developers’ transactions or requiring them to disclose their external dealings. Furthermore, Apple can no longer restrict link usage for specific categories.

Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney lauded the ruling as a significant victory for developers. He noted that developers are now free to use their payment services in conjunction with Apple’s app, a massive win for <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto companies aiming to offer iOS services without paying Apple’s fees. Sweeney believes that the savings will ultimately benefit the customers and that Apple must now compete on an equal footing with other businesses. He emphasized that competition is beneficial for the market because it ensures that the best product attracts the most customers.

Japan’s regulatory body, the Financial Services Agency (FSA), has requested Apple and Google to stop downloads of five unsanctioned <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>cryptocurrency exchanges, emphasizing its commitment to enforce regulatory standards in the nation. The FSA’s move targets five <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>cryptocurrency exchanges (CEXs) including Bybit Fintech based in Dubai, MEXC Global and Bitget from Singapore, LBank Exchange, and KuCoin headquartered in Seychelles.

Though the FSA made this request in the previous week, Apple pulled these apps from its App Store on February 6, barring Japanese customers from downloading them, as reported by Nikkei on February 7.

Japan’s approach towards <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>cryptocurrency has been more conservative compared to other Asian markets. While Hong Kong approved the first spot <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH) exchange-traded funds (ETFs), Japanese officials remain cautious about the potential volatility and risks linked to <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto ETFs.

The FSA’s move to restrict downloads of unregistered <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto exchanges is not an outright clampdown against <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>cryptocurrency investing, industry experts suggest.

As Anndy Lian, a renowned author and intergovernmental blockchain expert remarked to Cointelegraph, “This is not about turning off <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto investment. It’s about setting boundaries and declaring that if you want to participate in our market, you must abide by our rules.”

The FSA’s regulatory action comes about five months after it introduced a new tax reform for 2025 that will treat cryptocurrencies as traditional financial assets. Japan’s rigorous regulatory landscape is not an attack on <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto, but a means to ensure investor safety and accountability, Lian added.

The infamous Mt. Gox <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>Bitcoin exchange, based in Tokyo, collapsed in 2014 following a massive hack, causing losses of over $9.4 billion for more than 127,000 investors. In a significant step towards mainstream acceptance, Mt. Gox completed 41.5% of its <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>Bitcoin distribution to creditors on July 30, 2024, distributing a total of 59,000 <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>Bitcoin.

The Magnificent Seven—a group of top-performing tech giants, including Alphabet, Amazon, Apple, Meta, Microsoft, Nvidia, and Tesla—are witnessing a dip in their bullish momentum. This downturn is primarily due to investors’ growing dissatisfaction with the slow pace of advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Sandeep Rao, a senior researcher at Leverage Shares, highlighted that recent developments in AI have not significantly cut down human labor costs, contrary to earlier promises. Investors, disillusioned by these unmet expectations, are reconsidering their long-term investment strategies. AI-heavy firms have yet to deliver on the anticipated cost savings, leading to a potential shift in investor interest towards other promising stocks.

Investors may begin repositioning themselves, looking beyond the tech giants that have dominated the market in search of new opportunities that promise better returns in the long term.

The firm is warning that If an Apple user enables automatic iCloud backups of their MetaMask wallet data, their seed phrase can be online stored.

ConsenSys-owned <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto wallet provider MetaMask has sent out a warning to the community regarding Apple iCloud phishing attacks.

The security issue for iPhone, Mac, and iPad users is related to default device settings. This sees a user’s seed phrase or “password-encrypted MetaMask vault”. Further, this vault is on the iCloud if the user has enabled automatic backups for their app data.

In a Twitter thread posted on April 18, MetaMask noted that users run the risk of losing their funds if their Apple password “isn’t strong enough”. Basically, an attacker is able to phish their account credentials.

To fix the issue, users can disable automatic iCloud backups for MetaMask as detailed

Response to the Metamask Warning

The warning from MetaMask came in response to reports from an NFT collector who goes by “revive_dom” on Twitter. They stated on April 15 that their entire wallet containing $650,000 worth of digital assets and NFTs were wiped via this specific security issue.

In a separate thread earlier today, DAPE NFT project founder “Serpent”. This Serpent also helped gain the attention of MetaMask via posting and sharing the story with their 277,000 followers. They are giving a rundown of what happened to the victim.

They noted that the victim received multiple text messages asking to reset his Apple ID password along with a supposed call from Apple which was ultimately a spoofed caller ID.

As they were reportedly unsuspecting of the caller, “revive_dom” handed over a six-digit verification code to prove that they were the owner of the Apple account. The scammers subsequently hung up and accessed his MetaMask account via data stored on iCloud.

After MetaMask posted the warning today, “revive_dom” expressed his frustrations with the company, noting that:

“I’m not saying they shouldn’t do it but they should tell us. Don’t tell us to never store our seed phrase digitally and then do it behind our backs. If 90% of the people knew this I would bet none of them would have the app or iCloud on.”

While most of the community response was supportive, others were quick to emphasize the importance of using cold storage.

An iOS user had $600,000 in <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>Bitcoin stolen from him via a fake app on Apple App Store, Cointelegraph reports. According to the source, citing The Washington Post, user Phillipe Christodoulou downloaded a Trezor app on his Apple device to check his Bitcoin balance. However, the app turned out to be fake since Trezor currently does not have an application for iOS. Shortly after entering the seed phrase into the app, the user lost 17.1 BTC, the source says. Despite Apple deleting the malicious application, it appeared in the App Store again. Moreover, similar scam apps also exist on Google Play.

CoinDesk.com reported earlier in March about the fake Trezor app that appeared in the Apple App Store on February 24 and remained online for some days. This app collected users’ information such as private keys and seed phrases through phishing. Despite the checking procedures of the App Store, the malicious application managed to reach many users. Some of them left one-star reviews calling it a scam, the source says.

Fake apps are often created with the goal to steal users’ private information and login credentials. Earlier in March scammers released a fake version of a social app Clubhouse for Android devices.
