Ebay Says They Are Open To The Idea Of Accepting Cryptocurrencies

Global e-commerce giant Ebay could be the next in line to start supporting cryptocurrency payments. In a statement to the Reuters, Ebay confirmed exploring new and relevant payment methods as they move forward. The company in its statement said they are not immediately adding digital payments; however they are already evaluating prospects of adding cryptocurrencies as one of the payment methods in the future. 

Jamie Lannone, CEO of Ebay in an interview with CNBC also confirmed that they are exploring the option of adding support for cryptocurrencies on the platform. Also, he revealed Ebay’s plans to start selling NFTs to global customers. Explaining the company’s plans related to NFTs Lannone commented:”We’re exploring opportunities on how we can enable it (NFTs) on eBay in an easy way,” Everything that’s collectible has been on eBay for decades and will continue to be for the next few decades.”

Ebay is struggling with its balance sheet and it is expected that they may come up with something innovative to capitalize and keep up with the fast changing fintech environment. The recent comments from the company’s top official is highly significant also because it could be the next most important development towards cryptocurrency mainstreaming. 

2021 has seen a flurry of corporate leaders endorsing and supporting cryptocurrencies. Recently, Tesla boss Elon Musk confirmed that the US customers would soon be able to buy a Tesla car using Bitcoins.
