San Jose Sharks Become The First NHL Team To Accept Cryptocurrencies

Date:

In a breakthrough announcement, the US NHL team San Jose shark has confirmed that they would be accepting cryptocurrency in payment for their season tickets. The announcement comes after top NBA teams Sacramento Kings and Dallas Mavericks, and the MLB’s Oakland Athletics made similar announcements. The three NBA teams announced to accept crypto payments earlier this year.

Following the announcement, San Jose followers and fans will now be able to purchase tickets while making payments in Bitcoin, dogecoin, Ethereum’s ether tokens, bitcoin cash and wrapped Btc through the Bitpay platform. San Jose fans can also pay using the stable coins pegged to the US dollar.

Commenting on the move to accept crypto payments, Jonathan Becher, president of Sharks Sports and Entertainment said that they have already been accepting PayPal and therefore “ by definition, we’re accepting cryptocurrency. Why not embrace it and make it more visible as opposed to just doing it through a third party?”

Various teams in the US have been actively endorsing cryptocurrencies as they see a significant surge in the number of their fans using decentralized digital tokens.
