To make its platform for trading in-game NFTs, Konami is looking for a “wide range of talent.” Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) have been slowly making their way into the gaming industry. While many players are skeptical of the technology’s potential benefits, other developers and publishers see NFTs as a promising development. Even though there have been reports that NFT sales will drop sharply in the first half of 2022, game publishers and developers are still interested in the technology.
Konami is one corporation that has made no secret of its enthusiasm for NFTs. Castlevania’s 25th anniversary was marked by Konami in January of this year when a set of NFTs based on the franchise went on sale. The majority of the GIFs were taken from the first three Castlevania games, but there were also some artistic interpretations available for purchase. After its first foray into NFT, Konami seems to be diving in headfirst and has big plans for the technology.
Konami has stated in a recent press release that it is developing “new experiences” that make use of Web3 and the metaverse. One of these new features will be a place to trade non-fungible tokens (NFTs) that can only be used in one game. Although Konami is certain that this “unique distribution” channel will be successful, the company has yet to name the service or announce a debut date. Based on the press release, it appears that the development of this platform is only getting started since Konami is actively recruiting for a wide variety of new positions.
Konami Background
When the company offered more iconic images from its IPs to save game content in February, it was clear that Konami was going to move forward with its NFT plans. Whether or not Konami wants to keep games alive with NFT, many online players are unhappy with any use of blockchain technology. Due to the divisive nature of NFTs, many people were quick to criticize earlier ideas from businesses like Ubisoft Quartz.
Fans aren’t the only ones unhappy with Konami’s foray into the NFT business. As early as February, when news of Konami’s NFT plans became public, PlatinumGames criticized the Silent Hill and Castlevania producer, among other gaming businesses, for “greedy” conduct. PlatinumGames is responsible for developing Bayonetta.
