Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu (LBUS), a university in the city of Sibiu in Romania, announced that it would accept crypto for admission fee payments, Cointelegraph reports. According to the source, citing the announcement from the university, its students will be able to pay tuition in <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>cryptocurrency Elrond (EGLD) starting from July 2021.

The partnership between the university and the blockchain company is part of the university’s strategy to support local business, the source says. Moreover, according to Cointelegraph, Elrond has several offices in Sibiu and many LBUS graduates work in the company.

Elrond (EGLD) ranks 39th on Coin Market Cap, with a market cap of over $3.9 billion. Its price has increased by 4% in the past 24 hours. EGLD is trading at around $229 at the time of writing.

<a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>Cryptocurrency adoption in education is not widespread, yet there are already examples of using <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto.

Earlier this month, Edinburg’s Morningside School of Music started accepting crypto for music lesson payments. According to uDiscover Music, many of the students at the music school suggested adding <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto as a payment method. In particular, those students work in the fintech sector. Moreover, the school has a positive opinion on <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto and has already used it previously for making school-related purchases.

An iOS user had $600,000 in <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>Bitcoin stolen from him via a fake app on Apple App Store, Cointelegraph reports. According to the source, citing The Washington Post, user Phillipe Christodoulou downloaded a Trezor app on his Apple device to check his Bitcoin balance. However, the app turned out to be fake since Trezor currently does not have an application for iOS. Shortly after entering the seed phrase into the app, the user lost 17.1 BTC, the source says. Despite Apple deleting the malicious application, it appeared in the App Store again. Moreover, similar scam apps also exist on Google Play.

CoinDesk.com reported earlier in March about the fake Trezor app that appeared in the Apple App Store on February 24 and remained online for some days. This app collected users’ information such as private keys and seed phrases through phishing. Despite the checking procedures of the App Store, the malicious application managed to reach many users. Some of them left one-star reviews calling it a scam, the source says.

Fake apps are often created with the goal to steal users’ private information and login credentials. Earlier in March scammers released a fake version of a social app Clubhouse for Android devices. The app contains a trojan virus that aims to steal logins and passwords from users’ apps, including apps of social media platforms and <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>cryptocurrency exchanges.

The so-called XRP Army created a hashtag “Relist XRP” for sharing on social platforms. Citing a user of Twitter MackAttackXRP, the source says the hashtag has already appeared in several countries. In particular, this includes over 20,000 tweets in Australia, over 30,000 tweets in the U.S., and over 35,000 tweets in the Netherlands.

In particular, the source names such exchanges as Coinbase, Bitstamp, Binance.US, Bittrex, eToro, OKCoin, and more.

XRP is the seventh-largest cryptocurrency on CoinMarketCap.com, trading at around $0.574 at the time of writing.

In particular, they hid the funds in <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto assets such as Bitcoin and altcoins.

It only concerns profits of over 2.5 million won (about $2,300), with smaller gains being exempt from taxation on <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>cryptocurrency.

According to Coingeek.com, these measures from the Financial Services Commission will apply starting from April 20 this year. In particular, the exchanges could incur fines in the event they do not comply with the regulations.

Interest in virtual currencies has grown among traders in South Korea.

The lawsuit between Ripple and YouTube over scams running fake XRP giveaways on the social media platform has ended. According to CoinTelegraph.com, the company sued YouTube for not stopping or preventing the scams. Moreover, it also claimed that YouTube received profits from fake giveaways. The lawsuit was filed in April 2020. As per CEO Brad Garlinghouse’s tweet, two companies will work together to prevent and detect such scams in the future.

To create fake giveaways, scammers took over existing accounts and changed them to appear as accounts of prominent figures in the <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto world, CoinTelegraph.com says. From such accounts, scammers would ask users to send XRP to a wallet address. In return, they promised to send back five times the money received.

With COVID-19 lockdowns taking place in the first half of 2020, social media scams have increased significantly. According to the data from the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, only in the first half of 2020 losses from social media scams reached $117 million, compared to $134 million over the whole year 2019.

Among the most notable hacks of last year was the massive Twitter breach where hackers took over high-profile accounts of Elon Musk, Barrack Obama, and Bill Gates, among others, and scammed <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>crypto out of users.

The CEO of Ripple Brad Garlinghouse, along with the company’s executive chairman Chris Larsen filed two separate motions to dismiss the lawsuit against the SEC (U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission), The Block Crypto reports.

CoinDesk.com cites a letter from Larsen’s lawyers informing the judge about a motion to dismiss. In particular, attorneys suggest that the SEC does not provide sufficient support for its claim that the executive chairman violated Section 5 of the Securities Act 1933. Specifically, the lawyers contest Larsen’s knowledge of the status of XRP as a security, CoinDesk.com reports.

In December 2020, SEC filed a lawsuit against Ripple, its CEO Garlinghouse, and co-founder Larsen. In particular, the Commission accused Ripple of offering illegal securities to investors amounting to $1.3 billion. The SEC has since then amended its complaint to include the accusation of XRP token’s price manipulation.

The ongoing confrontation between Ripple and SEC did not seem to harm the company’s business activities in the Asia Pacific. According to CoinTelegraph.com, Ripple’s CEO attributes this to clear market regulations in those regions. XRP’s price has increased by over 2% over the past 24 hours. The <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>cryptocurrency is trading at about $0.46 at the time of writing.

In related news, MoneyGram is facing a class-action lawsuit from some of the investors who bought securities. In particular, they complain that the company made false statements in relation to XRP and did not confirm its status as a security, Coingeek.com says.

The issuer of a stablecoin <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>USDT, Tether, received a ransom demand of $23 million, CoinTelegraph.com reports. According to the source, hackers demanded 500 BTC to be transferred to a wallet address, threatening the company to release their sensitive documents.

Citing Tether’s official Twitter account, the source says that the company has no intention to pay the ransom demand. They explain the decision by suggesting that hackers did not make their intentions clear, so the demand might be simply a part of an extortion scheme, and the documents are likely fake.

Cryptocurrency prices continue to fluctuate, and <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>Bitcoin is making its way to new highs. As a result, hacking and ransomware attacks, in particular, are increasing. According to Chainalysis, hackers made at least $350 on ransomware attacks in 2020. Moreover, the firm found that this amount is 311% more than what victims of attacks paid in 2019.

Tether has been a victim of hacking before. In 2017, the firm had USDT worth $30 million stolen. Hackers moved the funds from the company wallet to an unauthorized <a class="lar-automated-link" href="https://accounts.binance.com/register?ref=42224911" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" 4536>Bitcoin address. At the time, the company made attempts to prevent the movement of stolen tokens into the broader ecosystem. Tether is a stablecoin pegged to the US dollar, with the value of each coin being $1.

Carrefour will use blockchain food tracking technology from IBM to track its food supply, starting with chicken and microgreens. According to CoinTelegraph.com, the platform to be used is the IBM Food Trust, hosted on the IBM Cloud.

Using food tracking, the retailer will place QR codes on the products, by scanning which customers will access information about their production process, all the way from farm to the store. The source says that customers will receive access to such information as the origin of the product, production date, transportation, ingredients and nutrition data, temperature, and health certifications.

IBM Food Trust is a platform that aims to improve supply chain efficiency, food safety, and brand trust. Thanks to the shared record of information about products, businesses and individuals can access the data they need to ensure transparency. Customers of the food-tracking platform include Walmart, Nestlé, Raw Seafoods, Tyson Foods, and a Tunisian olive oil company CHO.

Moreover, several other olive oil producers are using the platform besides CHO. I Potti de Fratini, an Italian oil mill, also uses the service, along with a Spanish producer Conde de Benalua and an Argentinian supplier Rolar de Cuyo, who joined in November 2020 as per the press release.
